Case Study Spotlight: UTA TRAX Light Rail Train Sound Barriers

April 21, 2016Kelley Neel

TRAX Light Rail Train passing in front of Trex Fencing

We have published details regarding a large fencing project for a light rail train system in Utah: UTA TRAX LRT Fence Project. This case study provides insight into the application of Trex Seclusions fencing as an alternative to masonry.

Cost, privacy, durability, and aesthetics were some of the most important factors in the decision-making process. Trex fencing was selected in 2011 by the Utah Transit Authority in conjunction with a design-build project submitted by Kiewit-Herzog-Parsons, a Joint Venture.  The installation was completed in 2013. Approximately 18,000 linear feet of fence was installed in heights from 6 ft. to 12 ft. tall.

Trex is uniquely positioned in the fencing category. Its distinct design ensures full opacity because the interlocking picket system does not create gaps as is common with wood or other composite fences. The density and thickness of the material also provide a level of durability that other manufactured products such as vinyl cannot offer.

The case study demonstrates the overall process of selection. For more specific details, please contact a Trex Fencing representative.

New Before & After Pictures

Trex Fencing installed at a model home in a new development

The Before & After Project Pictures feature of our website has become popular. That makes sense. Future buyers of Trex Fencing want to get an idea of how much Trex will improve the appeal of their property. Here are a couple of projects submitted by contractors that demonstrate just that.

The first project entailed the installation of 8′ tall fencing to provide additional privacy and hide an old fence on the neighboring property. A local contractor installed the fence in the Los Angeles, California area. The second project was installed by a handyman in Utah. We like how the homeowner opted for a color-combination fence and gate (Woodland Brown posts and rails with Saddle pickets).

Project Spotlight: Acadia Riverwoods 10′ Tall Fence

December 7, 2015Edmund Rose

Riverwoods Behavioral Health System Building

The RiverWoods Behavioral Health System in Riverside, Georgia recently purchased a Trex fence to provide security and privacy for its clients. The fence includes gates to access service areas on the property. A local contractor installed the fence on behalf of the treatment center.

Trex fencing was selected because it meets the high wind load requirements of Miami-Dade County, a national benchmark for wind loads.  The Trex Seclusions system is also fully private. Because of its unique interlocking picket system, the fence is completely opaque — there is no visibility through the fence. At 10 ft. in height, the fence is not scalable, providing a unique level of security typically unavailable from other fence systems. The contractor installed approximately 200 ft. of fencing plus four gates.

Elegance – Trex combined with masonry

September 28, 2015Edmund Rose

Because Trex Fencing is popular as perimeter fencing around communities, we often see buyers installing Trex between masonry or stone pillars either in-line or at entryways. The natural, stately look of Trex provides distinct appeal in these types of configurations.  If you are considering an installation on your property that integrates Trex with brick, stone, cement, or other types of columns or wall surfaces, attaching a Trex fence section is easy.
