Trex Fencing installed at a model home in a new development

The Before & After Project Pictures feature of our website has become popular. That makes sense. Future buyers of Trex Fencing want to get an idea of how much Trex will improve the appeal of their property. Here are a couple of projects submitted by contractors that demonstrate just that.

The first project entailed the installation of 8′ tall fencing to provide additional privacy and hide an old fence on the neighboring property. A local contractor installed the fence in the Los Angeles, California area. The second project was installed by a handyman in Utah. We like how the homeowner opted for a color-combination fence and gate (Woodland Brown posts and rails with Saddle pickets).

Goddard School in Ellicott City Maryland, Front of buildingThe Goddard School for Early Childhood Education and Development in Ellicott City, Maryland selected Trex Fencing to provide privacy and security on a portion of its property.  The installation was performed by local fence contractor, and approximately 300 feet of 6 ft. and 8 ft. fencing and gates was built.

The school selected Woodland Brown, the darkest Trex Seclusions® fencing color, for a distinct beauty that compliments the wooded area where the new facility was built. It also provides an elegant contrast to Ameristar ornamental fencing installed on other parts of the property.

Located on Waterloo Road, The Ellicott City school (a franchise of Goddard System, Inc.) opened in late 2015 and serves the Ellicot City and Columbia, Maryland areas.

Riverwoods Behavioral Health System Building

The RiverWoods Behavioral Health System in Riverside, Georgia recently purchased a Trex fence to provide security and privacy for its clients. The fence includes gates to access service areas on the property. A local contractor installed the fence on behalf of the treatment center.

Trex fencing was selected because it meets the high wind load requirements of Miami-Dade County, a national benchmark for wind loads.  The Trex Seclusions system is also fully private. Because of its unique interlocking picket system, the fence is completely opaque — there is no visibility through the fence. At 10 ft. in height, the fence is not scalable, providing a unique level of security typically unavailable from other fence systems. The contractor installed approximately 200 ft. of fencing plus four gates.

Fence posts mounted on top of wall and to side of wall

While most fence posts are set in the ground in concrete footings, sometimes posts need to be mounted on top of walls or attached to pillars. With Trex, it’s easy.

Trex Post Tower Mount

Trex post attached to pillar

Attaching a Trex post to a brick pillar

Although a Trex post is strong enough to stand alone without internal supports, the fact that it is hollow allows it to act as a sleeve when the situation calls for it. This is a perfect solution when you want to put the fence on top of a concrete wall. Using a pipe embedded into the wall or a tower with a base that can be fastened to the wall, a Trex post can easy slide over the internal attachment to hide it and to secure the fence posts.

Instructions on how to attach the Trex posts with embedded pipe and towers are available in our technical center. Please note: there are multiple ways that posts can be mounted on top of walls. These are simply two of them. In all cases, you should evaluate whether your wall can support the weight of the fence and the lateral pressure from force such as wind. In the case of a wall that is too thin or too shallow, an embedded pipe could break out of the side of the wall if heavy winds push against the fence.

As we’ve pointed out in other posts, Trex is often used for perimeter fencing where the fence runs between brick pillars or other types masonry columns. If the desired effect is to attach the fencing directly to the pillars, one method is to rip a Trex post in half and use a 2×4 to mount it to the pillar. Here are instructions for this method. The same principle applies to an exterior wall where a post is to be attached to the side of a building or similar structure.

Fence Project by Dakota Fence in FargoDakota Fence installed 757 feet of an 8′ tall Saddle color Trex fence for the City of Fargo, North Dakota. It was installed on 25th Street on the north side just off I-94, Exit 350. The fence was installed for privacy and sound dampening for condominiums on the west side of the road.

Dakota Fence’s representatives met with the city engineer to develop the specification for the fence. This is a good example of how a contractor working with a municipality can configure a Trex fence to meet specific needs. In addition to privacy and sound control, the city was looking for strength, durability and an aesthetically appealing product. Trex fit the bill.  For more information on this project, contact Dakota Fence at (701) 237-6181. If you are a city engineer or work for any type of government entity and are looking for information on Trex, feel free to contact us or visit our Technical Center.

Atlas Fence Crew, East Syracuse, New YorkThe October cover story for the World Fence News highlighted an installation project for a school in East Syracuse, NY. Trex fencing was included as part of a $21 million capital improvement project for the Waterloo School District.

Chris Polimino, president of Atlas Fence (the contractor that installed the project), stated in the World Fence News article that the existing stockade style wood fence had deteriorated significantly in spite of being less than eight years old. Now, the striking appearance of the Trex fence has pleased all involved including the school district, the neighbors, the general contractor, and Atlas Fence.

About Atlas Fence. Atlas was formed in 1979 and serves central New York in all fencing categories (residential, commercial, government, and industrial). Visit their Atlas Fence website for contact information and more on the services they offer.

Trex Fencing constructed in Chino Hills CaliforniaOne of the primary reasons homeowners select Trex fencing is to eliminate the nuisance of upkeep. Here’s an example of a project that shows a wood fence that was beyond the point of repair and what it looks like after Trex was installed.

It’s always nice to see BEFORE & AFTER shots. They demonstrate how much of a difference a new Trex fence can make in improving the appearance of a property. This particular Saddle color fence in Chino Hills, California is also a good example of how well Trex handles steep slopes. The brackets accommodate a significant angle and the rails cut just like wood.
